It is estimated that the United Nations (UN) estimates that more than 70 million people are currently asylum-seekers or refugees or have been forced to relocate due to war and natural disasters - the biggest ever recorded in human history. Many of them are having their education cut off and have a negative impact on their prospects for success in the future. It is the Columbia University Scholarship for Displaced Students (CUSDS) is an attempt to address this devastating economic and human loss by providing students who have been displaced with the chance to study through Columbia University, one of the top universities in the world.

The Scholarship assists students from all over the world who are not able to finish their education. The students will receive complete tuition as well as housing and living expenses while they pursue the undergraduate or graduate degree at every one of the Columbia affiliated schools, which reflects Columbia's total commitment to solving the current global problem. The Columbia-wide Scholarship is the first ever and the first of its kind it will offer as much as $6 million of supportper cohort for at least 30 students each year. Assistance and mentorship will be offered through the Scholarship and also by student and school groups at Columbia.

Eligibility

It is a scholarship opportunity designed for international citizens with refugee status located all over the world, or who have obtained US asylum or made an US request for asylum. or are living in the US with Temporary Protected Status as well as Internally Displaced Persons. US permanently resident (green card holders, citizens, etc.) are not qualified to receive the award. There aren't any age limitations for the scholarship.

Submission Instructions

Candidates must apply directly to an Columbia degree program that is listed on the website for scholarship information In addition to applying for the scholarship using the following form. Every school and program has their own acceptance criteria and deadlines for application. Acceptance into an academic program will not assure that you will receive funding from the scholarship (students could be accepted into an academic program but will not be awarded a scholarship).
